A while ago, while travelling through Thailand, we came across a magnificent bird; the Hornbill. It took us some time getting around to making the print. But here it is!
Our Hornbill print is available in 2 colorways (green and yellow) in wallpaper & fabric. For the background we used our pictures of the Thai jungle plant life as a reference. We drew the different plants separately and later made a compilation. This resulted in a surprising background, quite different from what we normally do. We are really happy with the end result!
The Hornbill is evaluated as near threatened on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. This means that it may be considered threatened with extinction in the near future although it does not currently qualify for the threatened status.
The decreasing number of Hornbills is due to habitat loss and people hunting the bird for its beak and head. These are used in charms and the flesh is believed to be medicinal. Also young birds are considered a delicacy.
